Golden Visa / ARI

Who it typically applies to:

Non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals using an eligible investment route.

Main features:

The Portugal Golden Visa is an investment-based residence program that allows visa-free travel within the Schengen Area and does not require permanent relocation (it is sufficient to stay in Portugal for up to 14 days per year to maintain the status). After 5 years from obtaining the residence permit, applicants may apply for citizenship, subject to meeting the legal requirements and potential changes in legislation. The program also allows including immediate family members within the same application and does not require becoming a Portuguese tax resident with proper planning. Currently, eligible investment options include funds, cultural support, scientific projects, or business and job creation, while residential real estate investments are no longer qualifying. The program is suitable both for relocation and as a “plan B” with access to a stable EU jurisdiction.
